Chiropractic Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression – Relieves the Aging Back

Chiropractic Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression – Relieves the Aging Back

Joseph Coupal - Monday, August 14, 2017
Vida Chiropractic - Chiropractic spinal decompression Newark, NJ

The body’s spinal cord is not only the center of the nervous system but also the center of the many functions of the body. It drives reflexes, the highway where signals to different parts of the body pass, and the central structure that makes it possible for humans to function. Because it is that important, injuries or pain felt in this area should be addressed with utmost priority. Any repetitive neck or back pain can be assessed and addressed by your chiropractor. Very often chiropractic spinal decompression is a direct path to rapid and permanent pain relief.

Back and neck pains can become systemic simply due to ageing. As we age multiple areas of our core structure weaken, our spine naturally compresses over time, and is a natural process that introduces various aches and pains that did not exist during our younger years. Chiropractic spinal decompression is a process that reverses the negative effects of the natural aging process.

Many people assume surgery is required to correct systemic back pain. This is simply not the case. Chiropractic spinal decompression is a non-surgical procedure than can produce faster relief than invasive surgery and of course without the pains and side effects of invasive surgery. We offer decompression spinal therapy services here in Newark, NJ and have been successfully resolving patient back pain for years. It is important to know that the earlier you address your back pain with spinal decompression the faster and more long-lasting positive pain relief you’re likely to enjoy.

Certain daily activities can have an adverse effect on the spine. The manifestations of these effects are pain in the neck and back. That can be solved by seeing a chiropractor about chiropractic spinal decompression for treating these pains.

This blog post explains what every new patient can expect during their first visit to our office here at Vida Chiropractic. This initial visit involves a consultation with the doctor to determine if you are a good candidate for conservative care or if you will need to see a different type of provider. If we think you are likely to benefit from treatment in our office, we will perform a thorough orthopedic and neurological exam as well as any other testing that may be ordered by the doctor. This may or may not include X-rays taken here in our office or other types of imaging that we will send you out for, such as MRI. Here are the critical things we will cover with you.

History and Symptoms

In preparation for your consultation, we’ll ask you to fill out forms that provide background information about your symptoms and condition. Types of questions we ask include:

  • When and how did the pain start?
  • Where is it located?
  • Describe the pain - is it sharp, dull, searing/burning, or throbbing? Does it come and go, or is it continual?
  • Did the pain start as a result of an injury?
  • What activities/circumstances make it better or worse?

Patients are usually asked to provide information on family medical history, any pre-existing medical conditions or prior injuries, and previous and current health providers and treatments.

The Chiropractic Exam

Dr. Arteta will conduct a thorough exam including general tests such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and reflexes, as well as specific orthopedic and neurological tests to assess:

  • Range of motion of the affected part
  • Muscle tone
  • Muscle strength
  • Neurological integrity

Further, chiropractic tests may be necessary to assess the affected area, such as having you move in a specific manner, posture analysis, and manual palpation or hands-on analysis of the affected body part.

Diagnostic Studies

Based upon our analysis of your history and the results of your exam, diagnostic studies may be utilized to reveal pathologies and identifying structural abnormalities. Diagnostic studies are not always necessary but are undertaken if Dr. Arteta determines that X-ray or other testing will provide information needed to guide your specific treatment program.

The most common diagnostic studies during chiropractic exams include:

  • X-ray exam
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan
  • Other laboratory tests

We handle your basic X-rays, but an MRI scan and more extensive imaging studies are referred to an outside center.

After The Exam

Depending on the severity of and how long you have had your symptoms, our doctors will sometimes order some preliminary treatments on the same day as your exam. We do this along with giving home instructions to help manage your pain until we have a chance to look at all your test results and determine what is causing your symptoms.

Patient Diagnosis after the Chiropractic Exam

We use the findings from the combination of the above described history, physical examination and any required diagnostic studies to lead us to your specific diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is established, Dr. Arteta will go over your results with you and talk about which treatment options is most likely going to help you to achieve your health goals. On your follow up visit, Dr. Arteta will detail your:

  • Diagnosed condition
  • Individualized treatment plan
  • Anticipated length of care
  • Health investment options

You can learn about several of our back and spine treatment services (here in Newark, NJ) by visiting our website. Dr. Arteta believes the more educated you are about the fundamentals; treating the cause of symptoms vs. covering up the symptoms, the better he and you work as a team to cure your back pain as quickly as absolutely possible.

Lower Left Back Pain – Causes and Who can Help You - Newark, NJ

Lower Left Back Pain – Causes and Who can Help You - Newark, NJ

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, May 24, 2017
Vida Chiropractic - Newark, NJ chiropractic clinic

So the lower left-side of your back is giving you fits. You have two burning questions. What happened? How do I get this fixed? Both are important questions. Getting the former answered will help you prevent recurrence. But you're much more likely in getting the latter questioned answered, and fast!

Your problem might be medical, skeletal due to injury, or skeletal due to genetics. Your medical doctor and your chiropractic team work together to get you properly diagnosed and treated. So let's start with the most common causes of lower left-side back pain.

The most common cause of lower left back is muscle strain on the left side of your body. Thankfully a muscle strain is not a serious injury, but the resulting pain can be quite severe. Pain in your lower left back from a muscle strain finds it origins in an overstretched or torn muscle (which damages the fibers of the muscle). This in turn can lead to inflammation, and this inflammation may cause back spasms. And pain from muscle strain is typically characterized as sharp, and is often tender to the touch. Solution: Rest the strained muscles.

Less commonly, your lower left back pain may be provoked by a problem with your internal organs. These problems may include:

  • Kidney stones
  • Kidney infection
  • Gynecological disorders
  • Pancreatitis

If you have a medical history of these four conditions and your lower left-side of your back is suddenly challenging you, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor to receive a proper diagnosis as your symptoms may get worse with time.

In addition to the above, lower left back pain may also be caused by any of the following problems related to your spinal structures:

  • Lumbar herniated disc
  • Facet joint pain
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction

These are conditions that your chiropractor is highly educated and trained to both diagnose and treat. Here in our Newark, NJ chiropractic clinic, Dr. Arteta treats lower left-side back pain as one of the very most common patient complaints. We want you to know that you don't have to live with this. Dr. Arteta will diagnose and put you on a rapid path to pain free living.

Every case is unique, but if you take a moment to read and listen to some of our patient reviews, you'll find many different people testifying to rapid return to full quality-of-life living.

If you suffer spine and/or neck pain and live in and around the Newark, NJ area, Dr Pereira and Dr. Arteta and the professional staff of Vida Chiropractic are here for you. Give us a call.

Chiropractic Manipulation 101

Chiropractic Manipulation 101

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, April 25, 2017
Vida Chiropractic Manipulation

There are well over 100 types of adjusting techniques used by chiropractors throughout the world. Typically, chiropractic doctors will focus on and utilize 2 or 3 different approaches in their practice. Here at Newark’s Vida Chiropractic, we are trained and experienced in a multitude of adjusting techniques that enable us to deliver very individualized care. We feel it is important, however, to be sure that you understand the most common forms of treatment as they very well may be applicable to your treatment program. This introduction can give you some basic information but to find out more or to figure out what technique may work best for you will require a personal consultation. So we remind you here that you are invited to call us anytime for your free chiropractic care consult here in Newark, NJ.

The goal of most chiropractic techniques is to restore or enhance joint function, with the goal of resolving joint inflammation, reducing pain, and increasing motion. Some approaches use a specific thrust applied by hand or with a small mechanical device, while others utilize what feels like a deep stretch or gentle pressure. These techniques are used on the spine and other joints within the body. They are often referred to as spinal manipulation, joint mobilization, or simply and adjustment.

Chiropractic Manipulation Techniques

Doctors of chiropractic adapt treatment plans to meet the specific needs of each patient. Typically, a treatment plan in our office will involve some combination of chiropractic adjustments as well as other physio therapy options such as chiropractic spinal decompression, active rehab, passive motion, muscle stimulation, or MLS Cold Laser Therapy. Below are a few of the most common chiropractic adjusting techniques: Diversified: the most commonly used form of spinal manipulation among doctors of chiropractic. The technique uses a very specific small and quick thrust by hand taking a joint just past its normal range of motion to restore normal function. This is often referred to as a high velocity low amplitude thrust.

Gonstead Technique: a hands on technique that expands upon traditional diversified adjustments using very specific patient positioning and adjusting styles. It also involves some unique diagnostic approaches to locating the areas of the spine that need correction.

Thompson Technique: generally uses a specific adjusting table that has moving pieces that allows gravity to help move a patient's affected spinal segments. It also utilizes tension on the leg musculature to assess problems in a patient’s spine. This is often referred to as leg length analysis.

Activator Method: a treatment method and adjusting device created as an alternative to manual manipulation of the spine or extremity joints. This technique uses a small hand held instrument to deliver a very controlled impulse into a joint. This is a very low force technique that is good for anyone who has health issues that would contraindicate a manual adjustment or those who simply find it more comfortable.

SOT: stands for sacro occipital technique. It is a low force technique that addresses issues in the spine and extremities by looking at how issues in one part of the spine can create symptoms or complicate treatment of other areas.

So, what’s next for you and your back pain? Here at Vida Chiropractic, we will carefully examine you and develop a treatment plan to address your specific issues and goals. We welcome the opportunity to educate you further on these subjects and a multitude of other options available to treat your unique spine and/or joint conditions. Chiropractic Care for Help Achieving Overall Wellness – Newark, NJ

Chiropractic Care for Help Achieving Overall Wellness – Newark, NJ

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, March 22, 2017
Vida Chiropractic Care

Everyone would like to achieve wellness, but wellness does not come easy. It is often difficult to achieve a healthy balance between mind, body and spirit when you feel pain. This is why Vida Chiropractic puts emphasis on chiropractic wellness care as a safe and effective way of achieving overall wellness and health that is pain-free.

Talk to a chiropractor when you have issues and pain in your body. Often, even when physically fit, you can experience back and neck pain or headaches. You may be suffering from some misalignments in your spine which can cause these symptoms. But an individualized chiropractic care plan can be created for your body and specific needs.

The benefits of using a chiropractor include providing relief from neck and back pain, even in chronic cases. Your spinal column gets stressed through accidents, poor posture, decreasing strength, sitting too often, or accidents. Bad posture can inflame headaches and neck pain. This is because when you slouch, the muscles in your shoulders and core are stressed trying to support you head which is extremely heavy. This can strain many muscle groups, which causes you to experience pain. But, a licensed chiropractor can perform spinal adjustments to your body so you can better support yourself, maintain proper posture, stand straight and sit erect to prevent pain and create overall wellness.
